The Council has an ambitious approach to how digital technology can enable the transformation of services and deliver better outcomes to all of its residents. Working with partners, the Council will invest in new technology in a way that contributes to the successful delivery of outcomes identified in the Corporate Plan. To this end the Council has developed a Digital Strategy and ICT Strategy that describes its ambition and commenced a programme to further define and implement our programme.
As foundation for this work, the Council has agreed a tiered digital infrastructure plan which comprises the following four significant areas of work:
- Digital ‘in fill’ to help most existing homes in Bexley to have access to super and ultra-fast broadband
- Ensuring that all new developments are built with access to a choice of ultra-fast broadband infrastructure providers
- Potential for a new Bexley Growth ‘fibre’ network to serve Public buildings, partners and businesses
- Borough wide coverage of high speed, high capacity wireless and mobile services
Over the next two years, it aims to achieve this largely through “maximising and leveraging investment from commercial digital utility providers.”
